On October 18, 1924 The Brookline Square Club opened it's sparkling new club house and golf course along Mill Road in what is now called Havertown, a 118 acre plot which had once been the Pennington Farm, between the communities of Brookline and South Ardmore and behind the brand new Haverford High School on Darby Road. The Square Club (as many called it) was founded by a group of Freemasons, and it disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived, a victim of the Great Depression. But not before it's members in 1926 sold off the 18 hole golf course laid out on sloping terain above Cobbs Creek between Mill and Eagle Road. The Thomas Conway Corp. offered one million dollars for the property, so the club voted to sell and find other quarters. The site of land now occupied by Paxon Hollow was selected and purchased shortly thereafter and formed in the fall of 1926 as a Country Club with a 9 hole course.
Upgrades upgrades added 9 more holes and in recent years the course has been the site of many professional and amateur tournaments and has hosted such great players as Jack Nicklaus and Ed Dudley. You can be proud to play Paxon Hollow, a historic, classically designed golf course that has done much to enrich the fine tradition of golf in this area.
SPECIAL GOLF OUTINGS
Paxon Hollow has extensive experience hosting both large and small Golf Outings. Every year we handle over 75 outings which can be as small as a 12 player Tee Time Outing or a Shotgun Outing with as many as 150 players. Our attention to detail is unmatched. Please note that the size of your outing determines which type of outing we can offer. Click on the appropriate link below based on your estimated number of particpants. Closest to Pin and Long Drive contests can be arranged with any outing.
PRIVATE PARTY FACILITY
In The Ballroom we welcome groups of all sizes. Festive settings, service and menus are perfect for intimate dinners with friends, special occasions and holidays, corporate meetings and staff parties. Events can be booked throughout the restaurant and in our private dining rooms seven days a week.
